etisalat signs deal to partner AT&T and Orange

Dubai: International telecom companies this week descended upon the UAE to partner with etisalat and extend their reach of secure networking services for business clients.

The nation’s incumbent telecom signed deals with AT&T and Orange Business Services, a unit of France Telecom, to enhance each company’s IP-based network for Fortune 2000 clients.

Under the connectivity and network sharing agreements, the two foreign telecom giants will be able to offer their US, European and Asian-based clients secure virtual private networking (VPN) services while travelling to the UAE.

“We are trying to extend our global reach to our multi-national customers that operate in the UAE, and we are trying to help the UAE-based companies that have regional and global business dimensions,” said Ahmad Hamzawy, head of Middle East and North Africa operations for Orange Business Services.

The deals also allow etisalat’s business clients to access their business applications securely while working abroad. The managed services are delivered through a data-carrying service called multi-protocol label switching (MPLS).

“With the launch of the international IP-VPN service, we are extending the benefits of international connectivity to our business customers, enabling them to increase their productivity and efficiency,” said Ahmad Julfar, COO of etisalat.

Geoffrey Webster, vice president of AT&T global, said the service allows business to remotely access “mission-critical applications” like SAP or Oracle that cannot be run over the internet.
